KSM’s 9/11 Confession Out, Hell Still In

Letter to Romans: Now that the confession of accused 9/11 mastermind has been tossed by a military judge for being unconstitutionally coerced, can the prosecutors, pols & poltroons finally get out of the way so the SOB may finally be legally convicted & sent to hell?

After 27 years of epic legalistic & political infighting, don’t count on it suddenly being easy. Even though, nearly every American has agreed from the get-go that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed planned & orchestrated the terrorists’ attack on the World Trade Center in New York City, Pentagon & elsewhere. The mountain of evidence against him is arguably monumental, including as to his relationship & communications with bin Laden, al-Qaeda & the hijackers. But fate would intervene time & again. When the Bush administration put the accused terrorists into the CIA’s secret interrogation program where they were waterboarded (2003-06), it opened the door to any confession being tossed … as it just was. Perhaps more self-defeating was the deep-sixing of then-US AG Eric Holder who originally indicted (2009) KSM & several co-conspirators in the SD of NY. While having the most experienced terrorist prosecutors & criminal judges in the country (think World Trade Center bombing), recall how Congress, not being able to stomach terrorists imprisoned in Cuba coming to US soil, blocked Holder with funding restrictions on any such transfer (2011) & the federal indictments were dismissed. So, hello military tribunal & arraignment the following year, leading to 5 different military judges assigned to the case since. Appeals, plea deals entered/overturned & a collapsed trial too.

Can you believe after all this that a guilty verdict & life if not death sentence is still there for the asking? The latest judge not only tossed KSM’s confession but pushed the elusive trial date to June 2028. Maybe for once use that time smartly? True, KSM’s supposedly waterboarding-induced confession to the FBI is now “tainted” & thereby blocked along with its possibly “poisoned fruit.” But there’s all that freaking evidence remaining. The US not KSM still holds the real leverage here. Proceed to trial & demand death penalty whenever while KSM continues to rot in prison, for another 27 years, if necessary? Or CAREFULLY plea bargain one more time to spare the creep’s life? I’ve always thought spending the rest of one’s miserable life in a hell hole is a more miserable fate than putting that miserable life out of its misery via firing squad. But that’s just me.
