As Fox News reported, No. 44 had the audacity to tell CBS in an interview that aired: “The White House [meaning No. 45 & 47] shouldn’t be able to direct the attorney general to go around prosecuting whoever the president wants prosecuted.” He elaborated: “The awesome power of the state, you can’t have a situation where whoever is in charge of the government starts using that to go after their political enemies and reward their friends.” Having been whiplashed by Team Obama & Biden’s DOJ, Team Trump wasn’t too happy about Obama’s holier than thou insistence that “I never did that when president.” And Gov. DeSantis reminded the ex-Chicago Democratic Machine politician on X: “The Russia collusion hoax would like a word.”

Yet, Obama wasn’t finished in his talk with that bastion of morality, Stephen Colbert. He elaborated, “There were a couple of [norms] that I followed, even though they weren’t law … perhaps they need to be codified now.”  Presumably, Obama meant passing laws making sure future presidents are virtuous, honest and holy like himself. An independent DOJ would work, Obama suggested, not quite realizing he was proposing a FOURTH branch of the federal government to go along with the Judiciary, Congress & Presidency. Well, if so, Americans might have been spared the FBI/DOJ’s counterintelligence investigation into whether Donald Trump was a Russian spy; you know, the one triggering two failed impeachments. On the other hand, there is such a check on abuse already in place, the Constitution’s Separation of Powers Clause, which Obama still doesn’t seem to grasp.
