The Greatest Beat Down Ever Told: Part I

Letter to Romans: Prosecutors & politicians have become legendary calling out criminals & opponents. Dewey specialized in jailing mobsters. Lincoln pulled Douglas’ pants down over slavery. But Jesus beat them all in His “Blind Guides” beat down of hypocrites …

Consider reading Jesus’s seminal indictment of the Pharisees as if summing up to a jury in Matthew 23:

“Woe to you, scribes & Pharisees, you hypocrites. You pay tithes of mint & dill & cummin and have neglected the weightier things of the law: Judgment and mercy and fidelity. But these you should have done, without neglecting the others. BLIND GUIDES, who strain out the gnat & sallow the camel!

“Woe to you scribes & Pharisees, you hypocrites. You cleanse the outside of cup & dish, but inside they are full of plunder & self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may be clean.”

Court Clerk: “All RISE!”

Judge: “Mr. Foreman, has the jury reached a verdict?”

Foreman: “Yes, your Honor. We find the defendants, scribes & Pharisees, GUILTY of first-degree hypocrisy.”
